Nell's Handcrafted Bronze Wind Chime

Nell's Handcrafted Bronze Wind Chime

Four hand-cut bronze tubes — warm sustain for nearly a full minute

One mother turtle on top, five hatchlings below

Resonance dome — acoustic reflector, not decoration

Salt-air resistant antique bronze patina — hang outdoors year-round

Hand-tuned to E–F — every single one, by Nell's own hand

In stock - Limited units available

🎁 What's in every chime:

🐢

Mother Turtle (Top)

Cast bronze top figure — the loggerhead constellation that Nell tracked for 34 years

🎵

4 Bronze Tubes

Hand-cut, hand-tuned to E–F. Each strike rings for almost a full minute

🔔

Resonance Dome

Ornamental bronze acoustic reflector — funnels sound down and outward, not into the air

🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢

Five Hatchlings

Five smaller bronze turtle pendants cascading below the tubes

🎵 What makes this chime different:

🎵

The Bronze Sustain

Bronze rings differently from aluminium. Each strike carries and keeps ringing for almost a full minute — warm, slow, overlapping. Aluminium jingles and dies. Bronze carries the coast.

🔔

The Resonance Dome

The ornamental cap at the top is an acoustic reflector, not decoration. It funnels sound from the four tubes downward and outward. Without it, a chime drifts. With this one, it projects.

🌊

Salt-Weathered Bronze

Antique-patina bronze is naturally salt-air resistant. Nell's own chime has hung on the same garden beam in Filey for four years through North Sea gales. No rust. No corrosion. The patina only deepens.

🎯

The Coastal Tuning

Every chime is tuned by ear against a single bronze fragment Nell keeps in her apron pocket — the frequency she associates with the wind off the water at dawn. Every chime. The same hand. The same reference.

🐢

The Loggerhead Constellation

One mother turtle on top, five hatchlings below — the configuration Nell spent 34 years tracking in Marine Conservation Society records off the Yorkshire coast. The form is the tribute.

Hand-Tuned,

Every One

No batch tuning, no software, no shortcuts. Each chime passes through Nell's hands before it ships. Small variations in patina and file marks are evidence of the hand — not flaws.

Get Your Wind Chime!

A small thing for a garden — with a sound that changes how you use it.

In a light garden breeze, three or four overlapping notes a minute, with the sustain holding on between strikes. In a steady evening wind, the tubes start trading the lead and the hatchlings come in underneath like a slow rattle.

In a coastal gale, the chime moves into full chord and stays there until the wind drops.

Nell's own chime has hung on the same garden beam in Filey for four years. It has not come inside once.

Handmade by a former marine conservation officer — not a factory.

Margaret "Nell" Pearce spent 34 years as a Marine Conservation Officer on the Yorkshire coast — loggerhead and leatherback turtle sightings logged, shorelines walked before dawn. When she retired in 2021 she bought three wind chimes from a seafront gift shop. None of them sounded right.

By the end of 2021 she had a workbench, a blowtorch and a wire rack of bronze tubes. The first finished chime came out in March 2022. By 2023 the workshop made nothing else.

Now arthritis has closed the workshop. This is the final batch — every one tuned by Nell's own hand before it ships.

"I sit in the garden every evening now. I never used to."

Nell keeps the cards from customers in the top drawer of the workbench. One from a woman in Whitby who stood barefoot in her doorway for the full twenty minutes of an October storm — the whole time the chime was in chord. One from a man in Sheffield who stopped making coffee and stood at the back door for the rest of a Saturday morning.

The one she thinks about most is from a woman in Aldeburgh. One sentence in blue ballpoint pen: "I sit in the garden every evening now. I never used to."

The Quality Promise:

Hand-tuned, every one. No batch tuning, no software, no shortcuts. Each chime passes through the bronze fragment in Nell’s apron pocket before it ships — regardless of which animal form you choose.

Cast bronze, not stamped tin. Solid weight, antique patina finish, salt-air resistant for outdoor use year-round.

Long-sustain copper-bronze tubes. Each strike rings for nearly a full minute — the sustain a coastal porch was built for.

Brass “E. P.” signature tag. Stamped by hand, wired to the hanging ring. Every chime carries Nell’s mark.

Hand-packed, hand-noted. Each order arrives with a postcard note from Nell on a Cape Hatteras Lighthouse card.

Really happy with this purchase it's exactly what my little front porch needed. The metal is a little thin, but it does not bother me one bit as it is aesthetically pleasing to look at and to listen to.

What does it actually sound like?

Four hand-cut bronze tubes, hand-tuned to sit between E and F. Each strike rings and keeps ringing for almost a full minute — warm, sustained, slow. In a light garden breeze, three or four overlapping notes a minute, with the sustain holding on between strikes. In a steady wind the tubes start trading the lead. It sounds nothing like a shop-bought chime.

Will the bronze rust outdoors?

No. Antique-patina bronze is naturally salt-air resistant. Nell's own chime has hung on the same garden beam in Filey for four years through North Sea gales — no rust, no corrosion. The patina only deepens with weather. Wipe with a dry cloth if salt build-up occurs. Most customers never bring it inside.
